The MLC pays writers as parties: a name and an IPI. A line with the name spelled wrong, a stage name where the legal name goes, or two people on one line is a party the MLC can’t pay. Everyone else on the registration is paid. That share sits. We find every one and write the correction.
One letter off and no IPI: a writer the MLC has no record of. The other writers on the registration are paid in full.
The artist name where the legal name goes. A brand isn’t a writer; the share under it stays unclaimed with every new recording the MLC matches.
“SMITH AND JONES” is one party with no IPI. Neither person is paid on that work.
A registration of your song with one of your writers missing. Everyone else on it is paid.
The right name, no number. The MLC pays numbers.
The MLC portal doesn’t let a member change an existing writer’s name or IPI; it goes to MLC support. We write it: the song code, the line as it reads, the line as it should read.
Every writer in the catalog, by legal name, not just the recording artists.
An existing writer’s name or IPI can’t be edited by a member. It’s a support request, which we prepare. A missing writer is a claim plus an added line, which we also prepare.
By catalog, a flat monthly plan. See Pricing.
