DUPLICATES AND CONFLICTS

Which copy is the money following?

A song registered twice pays whichever copy the recordings landed on. A recording matched to someone else’s song pays them. A claimant you’ve never heard of on your work collects beside you. We show each one with both registrations side by side, and write the filing the MLC asks for.

WHAT WE FIND

Both registrations, side by side

Duplicates

The same work registered more than once. We show which copy the recordings and the royalties follow, and whether it’s the one you control.

Misrouted recordings

Your writer’s recording matched to another party’s work. Your registration, theirs, and the stores paying it.

Every claimant on your works

Every publisher, administrator and writer the MLC pays on each of your registrations, with their share, so a claim you didn’t expect is visible the month it appears.

FROM FINDING TO FIXED

The ticket, written the MLC’s way

Support ticket

Member name and number, both song codes, the ISRCs, the proof, and the request to correct every payment made on the wrong match since January 1, 2021.

Follow-up

We track each ticket until the MLC answers, and read the next distribution to confirm the fix landed.

Questions

Can the MLC portal fix a wrong match?

No. The portal only matches unmatched usage. A recording already matched to the wrong work is a support ticket, which we write.

Who files the conflict?

You, through your MLC account, with our ticket and proof. We follow it up with you.

Is a cover on the other song’s registration a misroute?

No. A recording of someone else’s song belongs on that song’s registration. We only flag recordings of your songs.

One of them is paying someone else.
